Puebla de los Ángeles

Legend says the night of September 28th, 1530; Brother Julián Garcés -who was The Bishop in Tlaxcala- had a dream of a wide green Valley, surrounded by rivers, where angels were coming down from heaven and traced a city with golden threads and straight avenues. Thus, finding then the perfect place to start the construction of “The Very Noble and Very Loyal City of Puebla of the Angels”. This name was given by Queen Isabella of Portugal in 1532 and officially founded on April 16th, 1531. The city´s Architecture comes from the XVI Century with a Renaissance style, a Religious Architecture from the XVII Century through “argamasa” and plastering decorations. Neoclassical Architecture in XIX Century and finally the City of Puebla comes back with a XX’s Century Renaissance style.
Located in the center- east in México, the state is adjacent to Hidalgo, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Morelos, Tlaxcala and Mexico City. Puebla has a surface of 33, 995 sq. km, with a temperate and sub-humid climate, – although with summer rains- and located at 2,160 meters above sea level.

The Volcanos…

One of the most fascinating tales in the state of Puebla, is of course, about the origin of these rock formations. This legend, tells us the story about a great warrior who belonged to the Mexica Empire and asked for a beautiful princess’ hand to her father. He, to give his daughter’s hand to the warrior required him first to win a battle in his name, and if he returned victorious then the warrior would marry the princess. Shortly after, the great warrior came back triumphant and hopeful for marrying his love, however, he finds out the princess had passed away. Broken-hearted, he takes her body to the mountains to watch over her, keeping hope they shall see each other again.

It is when the ancient gods blessed them with inmortality by turning them into snowy mountains. Since then, if you’re careful enough you can see Popocatépetl guarding Iztaccíhuatl’s eternal sleep untill the day they reunite.
